What it's like to be the Brutally Honest Friend.
One of the things my friends tell me they appreciate about me, is that I don't sugarcoat. I'm no Willy Wonka and if you want my advice you better keep that in mind.
There are a million reads online on exactly why you need that one friend that 'll always tell you like it is, no matter how much you don't want to hear it.

But where are the articles on what it's like to be the brutally honest one?
Right here!
1. There comes a point where you just give up on trying to fend off other people's problems. Somehow, despite being far from nice in your advice, trouble always seems to find you.

2. You learn to warn people upfront about your honesty so they can make a calculated choice whether or not to include you in their problems.

3. It's inevitable. You're gonna be called a bitch (behind your back) because of something you said to try and help someone.

4. While you're super proficient in making sure other people have their lives on track, when it comes to your own life: You rarely follow your own advice. Which leads to awfully awkward self-awareness freakouts.

5. When you could use some advice yourself, you're usually hesitant about asking your friends because you've witnessed their fuckups yourself from the very first row. None of them is going to know how to get you out of your pickle.

6. There are days when you wish your friends could just come up with the answers on their own. Especially if it's the 20th time you're listening to the same fucking problem. And they never do what you suggest them to do.

7. But when they do turn to someone else for advice, you're strangely offended.

8. There are people who get zero patience for their problems. You tell 'm once and if they won't listen they can fuck off.

9. There are the exceptions in the form of best friends. They'll make the same mistake over and over and over again and you'll still be there to listen and support. No matter how much they ignore your well-intended advice.

10. No matter how well your intentions are. Someone is going to take offense. Some people just want to hear you say what they think of themselves and don't take kindly to you trying to show them a different way.

11. Being the one where everybody runs to for a good talk and crying shoulder makes you seriously lose faith in humanity. When you see people at their worst so often or hear of the things done to them, it makes you stop and think.
