“Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.”
― Robert A. Heinlein
One thing I have in common with all my favorite girls: we’re all somewhat crazy catladies. It’s not unusual for us to talk about our fluffy babies for hours on end; analyzing their every little behaviour.
So it’s only right for to me introduce my 2 babies to the grand public.
First thing you have to know is that I’ve lived with cats all my life. Somehow we never got a dog and it seemed logical that I keep that tradition alive.
I am the proud cat-mother of 2 rascals: one is Loes and the little kitteh is Mister Jynx. Let me tell you: his name was meant for him.
I can’t tell you about him first.
Loes is the original lady of the house so she deserves to have her story told first.
As I was looking into getting a cat because I missed life in the house that did not come in form of drooling and spitting crying baby-danger. A friend of mine told me about a charity organisation called “VZW Kitten in nood”. They fetch stray kittens and cats, get them healthy again and put them up for adoption.
I got into contact with the lady who founded it and she sent me the picture that changed everything:

Loes de Poes (which translates to “Loes the Cat”) in all her kitten glory.
She was the cutest little thing and she was a total basket-case. Which was essentially what sealed the deal for me. Fighting for her life at the vets I got weekly updates and for a while it didn’t look all that great and it broke my heart to get that call that told me that the next night was do or die for her.
Luckily, Loes turned out to be a little fighter and within 2 weeks she was ready to come home to me. A long trip from Gent with the train later I was completely in love and have been ever since.
The one thing that caught me by surprise is the sheer size of the lady. She’s a good 6 kg and pretty large in size too!
A little arrogant and distrusting, moody yet never aggressive. We talk and she listens. I wonder if she’s more like me, or I’m more like her?
One cat is… just one cat. With a full-time job and going out over the weekend she ended up being alone more than I wanted to. Whenever I’d leave she’d sit at the door and cry her heart out. After a couple of months I felt so bad that the search for a second cat begun.
Insert Mister Jynx:

A mix between a sphynx cat and a stray. When we went to get him he was still suckling away but as soon as he was home he adjusted better than I could have ever wished for.
The crazy thing is the two of them didn’t even hiss at each other. Each one on one side of the living room door it took about 15 minutes before we decided to open the door and let them figure it out.
Nothing.
Not a peep. They just went along as if it had always been like that. I can tell you I was flabbergasted *love that word*.
Jynx is in many ways the opposite of Loes. He’s curious and bold (and by bold I mean that within a week of adopting him I had to rush him to the vet because he stood on the very hot hotplate and then cartwheeled himself into nearly boiling water). He’s cuddly and if we’d let him he’d be around us every waking hour.
The two of them are totally brother and sister. They tolerate each other for the better part but ever so often there’s an irruption of either love. Or hate.
Call me a crazy catlady if you like, but I can’t imagine my life without them anymore.
